His birth took place at midnight in jail where his maternal uncle Kansa jailed his parents on the fear of curse from a divine voice that the child of Devaki and Vasudeva going to kill him and dethrone him. Lord Krishna was born during the time of chaos. That was the time when justice was denied, evil power was ruling and he had a threat to his life from his maternal uncle Kansa. His childhood was completed on full love care and courageous deeds by himself like killing Putana and others demons sent to kill him by his maternal uncle, stealing butter, playing flute, and other naughty activities that really teach us various lessons.
Why do we celebrate Krishna Janmashtami?
"Whenever religion is lost in the world and iniquity prevails, Then I will come to this earth with a new incarnation for the protection of religion," said Lord Krishna in Bhagwat Gita. We celebrate this festival because when the pot of sin-filled, god incarnate to justify for the sake of equality. This also teaches us that patience, faith, and truth always have a road map towards peace and prosperity. No matters how big the evil force and power thrives, a mustard size truth has the power to burn down lies of the whole universe. Mesmerizing the holy birthday of Krishna people fast, worship lord Krishna the whole day.
How to celebrate it?
Krishna was born in jail at midnight and he was taken to the foster home of Nanda and Yasodha to raise and be brought up because if Kansa had known about the birth of Krishna he might have killed him. Vasudeva, the real father of Krishna crosses the Yamuna river and left for Bindraban. People celebrate Krishna Janmashtami by fasting and worshiping in the daytime, singing devotional songs to show the love and respect for Krishna, and keeping vigil( Jayaram, keeping awake) at night. After Krishna's midnight hours of birth, statues of baby Krishna are bathed and clothed and placed in a cradle(carrycot). The devotees then break their fast, by sharing food and sweets. Women draw tiny footprints outside their house doors and kitchen, walking towards their house, a symbolism for Krishna's journey into their homes. People also visit the temple of Lord Bishnu and Krishna but during this pandemic period, most of the temples are closed. People also perform Krishnalila(drama) on this day. In Nepal, people gather at the Krishna temple and a special gathering takes place at the old temple of Krishna at Patan durbar square. Devotee chants "hare Krishna", "hare Narayan".

As all, we know that festivals and religions bind each human with other tightly and every festival has its own importance. On this day people fast for a whole day this signifies humans to be loyal and clears the capacity to bear the pain. These festivals also signify that truth always wins over the evil power and whenever and wherever evil and injustice prevails god incarnate to destroy them. This festival is also a festival of love, care, and togetherness as Krishna once said "To whom pleasure and pain are same, is fit for attaining immortality. Unity, bearer of truth, and equal love to all living beings, tenderness, bold decider, etc are the characteristics of Krishna that can be implemented in life.
